The mission of the National Kidney Foundation U.S.
Transplant Games®, which have been held biennially since
1990, is to celebrate the success of transplantation,
honor those who have given the gift of life and call
attention to the need for more organ donors.
The 2010 Games will be held July 30 – August 4, 2010 in
Madison, Wisconsin, The Games coincide with the launch
of the Wisconsin Donor Registry, a secure online portal
for Wisconsin citizens to register their decision to be
a donor.
The Games feature 12 athletic competitions, Opening and
Closing Ceremonies, special events honoring living and
deceased donors as well as donor families, and a
community 5K Run/Walk.
Athletic
competition is open to those who have received a
life-saving organ transplant, including kidney,
pancreas, liver, heart, lung, or bone marrow/stem cell.
New to the Games in 2010, living donors may compete and
medal in the 5K Run/Walk and the following Track & Field
events: 100m, Long Jump and Softball Throw.
The athletic competitions are golf, swimming, 3-on-3
basketball, 5K run/walk, tennis, bowling, volleyball,
badminton, track & field, table tennis, racquetball and
cycling.
In 2010, Ballroom Dancing is a demonstration
sport.

Approximately 7,500 attendees will be in Madison for the
Games, of which 1,500 are transplant recipients.

Games venues are Alliant Energy Center, Monona Terrace
Convention Center and UW Athletic and Recreational
Sports facilities.

More
than 800 community volunteers will support the Games
effort.
Community participation in this effort is encouraged and
welcomed! Individuals or groups are invited to
participate in the Community 5K Run/Walk on Saturday
morning July 31, volunteer during the event, attend the
Opening Ceremonies, and cheer on Team Wisconsin and
other state teams at the athletic competitions.
