KIM
LEWIS begins his second season as an assistant coach
at Northeastern. Lewis is no stranger to the man from whom
he now takes orders; he played at Tulane while Ron
Everhart was an assistant coach.
Lewis comes to Northeastern from McNeese State, where he
was a recruiter under Tic Price for one year. With the
Cowboys, his duties included coaching the perimeter
players, scouting opponents, conducting individual
workouts and assisting with recruiting.
Prior to that, he spent a season at Xavier University
(La.), an NAIA school located in New Orleans. Among his
responsibilities at Xavier were exchange of game film,
scouting opponents and conducting pre- and post-season
workouts.
Lewis graduated from Tulane University in 1994 with a
bachelor’s degree in communications. He had a
distinguished career with the Green Wave. Lewis earned
Metro Conference Freshman of the Year honors in 1991 and
second team All-Conference accolades in 1992, the same
year he landed a spot on the NCAA Tournament Southeast
Regional All-Tournament Team. He helped the Green Wave to
a national ranking, a Metro Conference title and an
opening-round win over St. John’s in the 1992 NCAA
tournament. In 1995, Lewis was named Tulane’s Male Athlete
of the Year. He helped the Green Wave to two 20-win
seasons, graduated as the school’s all-time steals leader,
and appears on Tulane’s career lists in games played, free
throws, three-pointers made, scoring and rebounds.
He got his coaching start as a volunteer with Tulane in
1996. He parlayed that into as assistant coaching position
the following year, and stayed in that role until 1999.
During that time, he also served as a coordinator at the
Green Wave’s summer basketball camps. Prior to that, he
worked as a counselor at the Perry Clark Basketball Camp
in 1996.
From 1999-02, Lewis played in the Icelandic Professional
Basketball League. While in Iceland, he helped lead his
team to a championship, earning MVP and best all-around
player honors in the process. His first season in Iceland,
1999-2000, he doubled as his team’s head coach.
His other post-graduate playing experience was with VASDA,
a team of ex-college stars that toured 10 universities in
the fall of 1996. Lewis helped VASDA to a 9-1 record, its
best ever.
Lewis lives in Jamaica Plain. He has a daughter, Jasmine.
DARYN
FREEDMAN joins the Huskies staff for his first season
after spending the last four seasons as Head Basketball
Coach at Brimmer and May School in Chestnut Hill.
At Brimmer and May, Freedman rebuilt the basketball
program and led the team to the 2005 New England Prep
School Championship. Freedman also served as the President
of the New England Prep School Men's Basketball Coaches
Association for the last two years.
Prior to his coaching tenure at Brimmer and May, Freedman
spent eight years as an assistant to Coach John Calipari
at the University of Massachusetts, the New Jersey Nets,
the Philadelphia 76ers and the University of Memphis. At
UMass, Freedman served as a student assistant for teams
that went to the Elite Eight in 1995 and Final Four in
1996. Freedman followed Calipari to the Nets and served as
a staff assistant and worked in the Basketball Operations
department. Following Calipari's departure from the Nets,
Freedman served as an assistant to Calipari with the
Philadelphia 76ers, as Calipari was Associate Head Coach
under Larry Brown, during the 1999-2000 season. Freedman
joined the staff at University of Memphis in March of 2000
after Calipari accepted the head coaching position at the
school.
Freedman has also been a mainstay for the past ten summers
at the famed Five-Star Basketball Camp, where he has
served as a coach, clinician and commissioner.
Freedman earned a degree in Sports Management at the
University of Massachusetts in 1997 and a Law Degree from
Seton Hall University Law School in 2000. Freedman is
single and lives in Boston
RICHARD
PITINO is in his first season as an assistant coach
under Ron Everhart. Pitino comes to Northeastern from the
College of Charleston where he served as an administrative
assistant on Head Coach Tim Herrion’s staff.
While an undergraduate Providence College, Pitino spent
two seasons as a manager of the Friars’ men’s basketball
team. In his junior year, Providence earned its 15th trip
to the NCAA Tournament as a five seed and was ranked as
high as 12th in the Associated Press poll during the
regular season.
Pitino also served as an assistant coach at Saint Andrew’s
School in Barrington, R.I. for two years. In his first
season, the team finished the year ranked 25th in the
nation by USA Today and won the New England Prep School
Championship.
The son of Louisville Head Coach Rick Pitino, Richard
graduated from Providence College In 2005 with a degree in
history.
ANTHONY
SERRO returns to Northeastern for his fourth season,
his second in the role of basketball operations director.
Serro joined the men's basketball program as a team
manager in 2002-03, then became a graduate assistant on
Everhart's staff the following season.
He became a manager through an internship program at his
alma mater, Endicott College, where he graduated from in
2003 with a degree in Physical Education/Sports
Management. Along with his dilpoma, Serro received his
coaching certification.
In his sophomore year at Endicott, Serro interned in
Sports Marketing at St. John’s University in Jamaica, N.Y.
He coordinated several promotions at Red Storm basketball
games, which are played at Madison Square Garden.
He served another internship prior to that as an assistant
to the basketball coaching staff at Queens College in
Flushing, N.Y.
Serro grew up in Baldwin, N.Y. A graduate of Chaminade
High School in Mineola, N.Y., Serro currently resides in
Mission Hill. |
